Scotch Brite Belt on Scandi Grind

Does anyone use a scotch brite (fine) to clean up their bevels on a scandi? I read somewhere about someone using SB belts to clean up bevels and make them nice an shiny, but for a grind that has a sharp bevel, like a scandi, wouldn't this ruin the bevel?

Just curious.

Yeah if it was a true scandi grind with no microbevel then a scotchbrite would not be the best belt in my opinion. They have some give and wash out transitions a bit.

I use a cork belt with green rouge when I want a brush finish on the bevel without wiping out the crisp line to the flats. Scotchbrite will leave a haze on the flats above the bevel.

Not sure how you'd do this as a scandi is supposed to be a zero grind and I would not suggest that with a scotchbright. Microbevel changes all that though. I recently did a fair amount of research on scandis and many do have microbevels.

If you have a microbevel it can make sharpening easier without the concern of messing with the finish of the bevel but each sharpening will grow that micro bevel and soon you'll have a crappy saber grind.

I recently did a 15n20 scandi at 10.5 degrees per side. It took a very small chip in the tip when the customer tried coring a hole in a tree. Can't think of much worse for a scandi then all that side loading on the edge.
