Are Scotchbrite belts worth the $20 some odd bucks a belt?
How long do they last? Provided I will only be using them to Stick a satiney finish On Blades. What Grit should I sand to before using very Fine/super fine?

Thanks

I think they are worth the price. I have the grey, blue and maroon, the grey being the finest.
There are some to be had cheaper, but you usually get what you pay for, and I've had these for about 20 years.

I take the finish up pretty high for the grey belt, 320-600.
On the blue, 220-320. I rarely use the maroon, but it will blend a 120 grit scratch pattern. ;)

I sometimes use the gray Scotch Brite belts, but have discovered that they will cause severe orange peel texture on D2. Consequently I have stopped using them on it.
I still use them on other steels and like them a lot for getting out scratches. I haven't gotten what I would call a good satin finish with them to this point-there are too many shallow scratches left from them to quit there.

I found that the joints give long before the belts wear out and switched to the buffing wheels..........last until they are just a stub
