Lets see those scotch brite refinish jobs.
I just picked up this 2003 lg Classic off the forum.Had all the little rub marks everywhere from years of carry.Took it apart, cleaned it,scotch brited the scales and polished the screw heads.I think it turned out nice.

Sorry, did not think about it,I really wasn't planning on doing it until after I had it taken apart.

Was that hand rubbed with Scotch Brite, or machine applied? What kind did you use? I love that finish!

I like it a lot, Excellent job, This one's been Sanded, Scotch Brited & Polished, Its one of my EDC, Once you have smooth handles you'll never go back.......
Thumb stud has been filed flat on top, Feels way better on your thumb
Has a full action job, opens like butter :D:D:D Rickster :D:D:D Came from another member here "SAKRANICZ" Who got it from a member on Jerzee Devil..............

Looks great guys.

Rickster, is that a nw stud on the seb or just unused before the polish?

I believe thats the original thumb stud, Its Birth-Date is 2/06/07, It went back to CRK 3/24/09 for Clean, Tune, & Sharpen with new pivot bushing and was not used till I got it from SAKRANICZ. It is the smoothest Sebenza out of the seven I have. Im going to be starting on a small Classic I have with double thumb studs and try to duplicate the large one in looks and smoothness. The blade on that knife has the original Stone-Washed finish, It was not polished like the handles.........

Excuse my ignorance, but is that done with the Scotch Brite pads you can get in grocery stores for washing dishes?

You could use those, I buy mine from an Auto Parts Store that sells Automotive Paint & Supplies. They come in squares about 12 X 12 in maroon and green for different roughness.

Rickster,

Can you go in to more details on what you mean by sanding, scotch brite and polishing?

I think it looks great and I might try it if it is not too dificult to do.

Thanks,

Huan

I used the ones for dishes by hand.I did not take all the bead blast off just enough to erase the rub marks.Left it kind of a dark smooth gray.
It will be much more polished looking sfter the next time it needs done.
I have got to say that this is the smoothest Sebenza I have ever had,Had a wood inlay that was close but the blade on this one swings closed like it is on a ball bearing when unlocked.

My large Sebenza was pretty scratched up from years of banging against my keys and other pocket jetsam, so I hit it with some 1500 wet/dry. Gives more of a user, antiquey look I think. That scotchbright treatment looks fantastic.

I noticed it was really smooth as well. I think it's because the ceramic ball is well broken in. You did a great job on that, I can hardly recognize it.

Also, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the newer Sebenzas, but have you noticed that the pocket clip is really strong and thick? My 2008 Large 21's pocket clip is way flimsier. It must be a cost cutting measure because the 2003 clip was surprisingly (and pleasantly) strong.

Great looking sebenzas guys. I did it to one of my sebs, and after about 3 years of use and carry, I think I need to do it to it again:D

The last classic sebenza I had seemed flimsy as well.. actually had my knife jump out of my pocket a couple of times. Just bought a may 2008 M21, and the clip seems much stronger.

CRK went to the thinner clips sometime around '03. My '02 EDC small regular has the beefier clip, but my newer Seb's have the thinner clip. The thinner clips are actually fine once you bend them a little and increase the tension.

I personally prefer the thicker clips, though!

Professor.
