Okay...I've hit several hardware stores and the only thing I'm being pointed to for scotchbrite pads is the kitchen sponges. I've been told that these pads work great for finishing blades, but are these the ones people are talking about or are they more abrasive? Where c an I get them?

Check the telephone book under abrasives and look for 3M dealers. Scotchbrite is a 3M product and comes in wide variety of abrasive grades. The tan colour is a good allround product but the dark grey is also good but is a little more agressive.

Standard Abrasives put out a line called Brite Rite which is very similar to Scotchbrite. I am not familiar with the colour coding of this line though.

I bought some in Home Depot. Burgundy is labeled "very fine" & grey is labeled "ultra fine" but no specific grits are given. I believe there is also a green "fine" pad but I haven't been able to find them yet.

The local tool store has boxes of the stuff. Check ACE Hardware if nothing else provides results.

jantz supply has satin brite belts, i'd imagine they work the same, but on your belt sander.

Or an auto parts store. Mechanics use them for clearing away gasket material.
