I don't post here as often as I used to, but I really had to share this one for a friend who posts here even less than I do.

This is currently the one and only Timascus Lochsa. For those of you not familiar with the Lochsa, Scott Cook is a custom maker who is doing single billet titanium framelocks. What this means is that a big block of titanium is machined out, so both the handle slabs and backspacer are from a single piece! It's simply an incredible piece of engineering, machining, and artistry on Scott's part.

The Timascus Lochsa, features a solid billet of Timascus (6AL4V and CP composition) machined in the same fashion as a regular Lochsa. Scott used Devin Thomas Damascus (spirograph pattern I think) to really put it over the top.

The action and lockup on Scott's folders are simply incredible. Super solid knife offered at a very reasonable price.

Here's a picture of the Timascus Lochsa with a regular one:

Anyone else here have a Lochsa (I'm holding out for a lefty!)

that is one beautiful knife--don't understand all the specifics of what you were saying but appreciate the difficulty in making it. Like your website too--partial to the Tom Begg knife. One of your links doesn't work by the way--the one that says the following-- Check out the knife related website I did for my Interactive Art Class!

I saaw this knife a while back in the Gallery forum. The Lochsa is a beautiful knife, but that Timascus pattern doesn't appeal to me. Gives it too much of a 60's acid trip look for me.

The fact that the handle is made from a single billet of Ti would make it an integral framelock. That makes for an exceptionally strong knife.

Mitch, those are fantastic!

I will admit I'd like it even more if it was colored in the higher temp/voltage range for the blue/purple coloring, but I am totally enamored with Scott's designs and ultra precise execution.

Again, FANTASTIC!!!!! :D :D :D

I saw the same (or similar?) knife at BAKCA last week.

This particular treatment of Timascus is not quite my cup of tea.

Scott did say that he was envisioning a wood overlay version of the Lochsa. However, he felt that it was a loooong way off as the "small" Lochsa will be developed first.

Personally I like both knives but I have never found a blade that goes with Timascus. It is so bright and colorful that my blades at least pale in comparison. I think the timascus handle with the stainless blade would be cool.

I've seen several "dressed up" Lochsas in photos, from damascus variants to a recent one where Scott put MOP inlays in the handle. I must say though, that I still like the original Lochsa the best. Its beauty is in its simple elegance and sculpture. Surface furnishings diminish this design IMO.

I like how the super bold bright Timascus™ pattern contrasts so well against the tight Damascus pattern.

UW - with a knife like that, you gotta come around here more often. Superb!

I tend to agree with Grapevine & Keith. The Timascus, especially, is pretty over-the-top.

But this damascus blade on the Lochsa, with the bead blast/brushed finish reversed, maintains the elegance of the design and complements it with good looking steel, at least IMNSHO:

I'm trying to decide if a wood inlay would look good, or just get in the way. I tend to like natural materials on handles better.

Grapevine, do you have any other dressed up Lochsa pics you can post or reference (for me to harvest onto my C: drive)?

Rob,

Go to Scott's site and look under the "Bench" heading. He has the MOP inlaid one that he recently did. I didn't download the others that I've seen. Can't even remember where I've seen them.
