Scottish Basket-hilt Suggestions?

This is a tough one!
For some reason, this design almost more than any other, seems to attract the recycled VW bumper type "sword makers."

I'm not aware of any of the better makers (Darkwood, etc.) turning out a Scottish Basket hilt, so I'd have to say your best bet is probably MRL.

I don't know that would say that. Check out basket hilts by Randal Graham or Al Massey or Armour Class. They are all superb (or so I gather although I don't like the genre all that much myself) and they certainly aren't made out of volkswagon bumbers.

got links?

Clay, I know nothing about these people, but that they have some awfully nice looking swords and decent, if not excellent, prices. You might ask around over at NetSword and SwordForum about them. I would be curious to see what kind of response you get.

They are nice looking! I'd be interested in finding out if they are as good as they look as well!

CD, you can see their stuff that albion carries in the post with the links that I put up earlier.

Triton, antiquanova is armourclass?

Thanks Triton!

Obviously I didn't mean to imply that Albion and similar are in the "VW bumper" Catagory, I was refering to the BudK, and God knows who else that seem to produce the 39.95 Scottish Basket Hilt swords.

Hugh,

No, as far as I know is a czech maker. Armour class is out of England. I think I got a little tangled up in the posts up above. Basically you can see some of armour classes stuff at the link I posted from Albion.

Ken,

No problem, I'm glad I could help a bit. You are absolutely right about BudK by the way. Personally I don't care for scots baskethilts much myself (although I certainly wouldn't turn one down if it showed up on my doorstep

) However if I was going to get a baskethilt I'd probably get the Italian variant the schiavona.
