If you want to hear the traditional, wild, tribal sound of Scotland, I can heartily recommend the band Albannach.

I've seen them live more than once, and their mad drumming and stirring pipe music would set the dead to dancing.

Here they are in Pennsylvania in 2008, playing The Gael, the main theme from the film Last of the Mohicans:

One of my sisters is great with the violin, and every time she asks my father what he wants for Christmas, he asks her to play the theme from Last of the Mohicans for him. She hates to play that song, no idea why.

Thanks for the info, another band to add to the list.

Try these lads. I listen to Wicked Tinkers a lot.

Very nice - thanks for posting that. Though, as a point of parliamentary procedure, calling all Americans "Yanks" is comparable to calling Scotsmen "Englishmen."

It probably has something to do with that hat your Cougar is wearing, ya damn Yankee.

See, over here, calling someone a "Yankee" is a huge insult, because it means they're a Yankees' fan and are too stupid to know that the only real baseball team is the Bosox. Not to be confused with Botox. OK, I'm drunk now.

I happen to be a Red Sox fan, but we shouldn't be bothering Maximus Otter with baseball. He is a real Scotsman (unlike me). What does he care about baseball? He is probably only interested in the Sport of Real Men -- Curling! And of course there's golf.

Oops, I forgot that he's a manly man. Guess that precludes me from asking what he wears under that kilt.:)

Lol, I just pulled up some of the Tinkers too. Some might ask why they are using an aboriginal digeridoo, but the Scots had them too! No one could remember how to use them though until recently.
