Just wondering who all likes the scout carry style. Will be trying that style of carry on my Becks WSK soon.............

carrying it horizontal instead of vertical

I love scout carry. I think the first thing to really in fluence me was Benicio's character Aaron in The Hunted with the tracker and K-bar carried this way. I have now tried several knives including the above two this way and it is my preferred method now for sheath knives. I lace paracord through the sheath holes on a K-Bar Kydex type sheath then slide my regular belt through the loops or tape the sheath to a pistol belt and wear that. I am right handed so I have the knife across my beltline at the back point left and edge down.

I wonder if the "scout carry" lessnes chances of a "point through sheath" accident? The chances of such an event with a conventional carry is the basis for the advice that sheaths be very stout and stiff.

Seems like it wouldn't be particularly comfortable in cars, or with packs, which pretty much covers it for me.

This method doesn't work for me either. I prefer to carry a fixed blade on my right hip or cross draw if my pistol is on my right hip.

Actually, I really don't like carrying anything on my belt.

The few things I must carry, I prefer to carry in a pack or shoulder bag.

I must be getting lazy!

I'm trying to get away from carrying knives on my belt. Soon I'm going to be upgrading to a Survival Sheath Systems shoulder rig. For me, wearing a knife or knives on my belt in the woods is uncomfortable. I spend most of my time while camping either crouched down, kneeling or sitting. I found that in those positions it's very difficult to resheath a knife. The knife always seems to cant away from you, or slide back around on your belt where it's hard to get at. The shoulder carry system seems like the remedy.

Is it more abuse on a knife to carry it out-of-sheath or are you guys only using them for convenience?

Mine came with a ballistic nylon vert, and I'd like to try horizontal sometime.

I'm not much on belt carry myself, except perhaps in the woods, in which case I'm generally not in as much haste while drawing, as my intended victim (of the wildlife variey)is traditionally already dispatched. However, if you are one of those souls fortunate enough to be able to carry a balisong, it works great for a reverse opening.

Scout carry in the car is not bad at al atleast for me with the Dave Beck W.S.K. (Tracker), Ka-Bar Next Gen or SOG Seal 2000. I dont care for it when wearing a pack or knapsack though but usually I would go to left side inverted shoulder strap carry then. I have been looking at the Survival Sheath systems should rigs too for my Ka-Bar or Seal 2000.

I prefer to carry my smaller EDC fixed blades this way. Usually something with a 3-4" blade and it works great. I also like carrying larger balisongs and occasionally larger folders this way. I used to carry a BM 975 this way around sheeple and no one even knew I had a knife on my belt, they completely ignored the black sheath on a black belt with my shirt tucked in.

Never tried it with a larger fixed blade, may have to give it a shot sometime. I usually carry bigger fixed blades in a dropped vertical nylon/kydex sheath with a strap around the thigh.

The scout carry is simply to keep the knife out of the way while still in reach when you need it. If you are moving through thick woods or underbrush this method of carry keeps the knife from catching on things as you move. I carry my WSK this way and most of the time I don't even know it's there till I reach for it. I do admit it would not be good with a pack but I don't really ever carry a pack so it's not an issue.
