OK, my son is a Cub Scout now and I'm placing an order for the 3 Blade Cub Scout Camp Knife. They talked me into being a Den Leader, so I'm going to get myself either a 2 Blade Leader's Classic, or a 3 Blade Whittler.

So now that I know a little teeny weeny bit more about knives than when I was a Cub Scout, I just gotta ask: what kind of steel and grinds am I buying here? (Not that it's gonna change my purchase, just curious.)

Glad that you have chosen knives of the great tradition from CAMILLUS made Scout knives! The models that you have picked are 420HC and flat ground. CAMILLUS has been the supplier of the Offical Boy Scout knives for many years, and now you are passing it down to yet another generation!

Thanks for being a customer!

420HC? Does that mean the blades won't discolor like they did on the Cub Scout knife I had as a child? Not that I ever minded then, or would now. I think discolorations give non-stainless blades a warm, loved look that says, "my owner likes me and uses me."

I still remember the day I "found" my Cub Scout knife, with one scale missing, in a drawer after not seeing it for many years.
