The local Boy Scout shop had two scout knives hanging on the rack in clear blister packs. One was Cub Scout blue, the other red. Both packages said "Made in USA". I remembered some older scout knives were made by Camilus, so I wondered... I bought one of the Blue Cub scout models as it looked a little nicer in the blister pack - it had brass liners where the red one didn't. The red one has an extra blade though (can opener).

Anyway, it says Camillus, New York, USA on the tang. This one was $13, the red one with can opener was $16, but not sure it's also Camillus. Both have plastic scales, similar to SAKs celidor. Funny thing on this Cub scout model is that the bottle opener and awl tools have liner locks, but the blade does not. Both models have shackles for lanyards. Also, would think a Cub scout needs a can opener more than a bottle opener?

Kinda neat to get a decent knife for that money that's made in USA, if you don't mind the Scout logo on it. I wonder if this model will continue to be produced or if it's just what's left in the pipeline...

Peace
Fred

on the camillus site, the blue one is a cub scout knife. presumably, den mothers and dads will be opening cans. the red one is a camp knife. i guess thats why the can opener is on it.

they look like pretty good knives.

The Camillus Scout knives are nice US knives. I recently purchased the Cub Scout for my son with blue jigged bone scales instead of the ones you mentioned. The one I purchased has a small problem with one lock not quite being in-line but not enough for me to risk sending it back. I too hope that these will continue. Camillus and BSA go back quite aways.
