Scout Style vs. Holster Style

Hey everyone, just wanted to hear some thoughts on the different ways to wear your fixed blade. I have always worn mine either on my backpack strap or belt like a traditional holster. I recently got a tek-lok to improve the abysmal BK2 sheath (would love the Hedgehog Leatherworks, but quite a bit of money) and before I adjusted another piece I had to attach it "scout style" I don't know if it was my belt, pants, or just an unfamiliar way of wearing my knife, but it was kind of uncomfortable.

How do you guys wear your blades and what advantages/disadvantages do you see in that particular way?

Never worn one "Scout Style" for long, like you it just was uncomfortable to me. Mine are all either high ride, mid ride, or low ride traditional. Most are cross draw, not the angled most are thinking, but I would say is "weak side" carry. It just feels more natural to reach across to draw the knife. Maybe its my Left handed thinking. :p

I actually prefer cross drawing as well, seems more comfortable, maybe it just my body proportions that make bending my arm up that high slightly more uncomfortable than drawing across my body. Luckily I never ran into a apache or Sasquatch that made that extra second or so critical.

Drawing behind my back as well as carrying behind my back is kind of uncomfortable. Scout style just sounds cool I guess.

I carry "scout" style daily. For me its out of the way, and I rarely remember its there.

I have made a ton of "Scout" carry sheaths and the one thing I can't figure out is why you'd want something on your butt where you can't see to re-sheath the knife. Lots of cut up scout sheaths out there, I'll wager.

I like scout style with a small fixed blade. My Scrapivore just hide back there until I need it. I carried my Esee 4 there when I first got it but it was a bit obtrusive. I now lash it to my belt on my left side with paracord. Both ride in kydex sheaths.

After some practice it is fairly easy to resheath. Not too quickly but its doable. To quote one of my favorite Mel Brooks movies "just think of your secretary".

I guess I'll have to try it on a hike, maybe its just that the BK2 is too big to wear comfortably like that. I could see a lighter blade being out of the way and comfortable there. I'll probably end up switching back to the side.

I seem to have an issue wearing a sheath scout style with the handle of the knife sticking out too far. Wore one for about an hour like that, and then put the knife back on holster style. Damn shame, too, because my scout sheathe is beautiful, so I'm trying to figure out how to convert it to carry holster style.

Just takes a little practice.

How long has the scout carry style been around? Don't remember anyone in my youth using that method.
