I didn't really feel like firing up the forge today and starting something new. Plus everything was closed so I couldn't go refill the propane tank either.

So I looked around for something to do and saw my old unfinished cable damascus fighter blade that I used to test how different grind heights looked for that Jade Fighter that I made a while back, and some old pieces of scrap wood, and some other stuff and got to thinking.

I figured my little scrap pile would keep me busy for a while, and nothing to lose if it doesn't turn out nice, and maybe it would be a plesant suprise if it did turn out to be decent.

Anyway, I thought it ended up pretty good considering it was all destined to go in the garbage anyway. It was my first time doing a stacked handle I think I will have to do more of them in the future.

The specs: Cable blade with sort of a Persian Grind, black pearl stone gaurd and pommel, African Blackwood and Thuya stacked handle.

Sorry for the bad pics, but you get the jist, and I have never got around to building that light box yet.

What do you think, keep it or scrap it?

Edited to change the pictures t o some better ones, still not the greatest, but better than with the flash going off.

Definatly a keeper, just goes to show what can be come up with with just a little resources.

I hope you are joking about scraping it. That is a beautifull knife. Let me be the first to say that if it is headed for the trash then I have a nice empty can that I can put it in for you, just send it my way. ;) :D Looks great to me. I really like how the guard is set at a angle to the blade.

I really think you should just send it to me :D it's all scrap anyway
Man I feel bad when you want to scrap a knife I'd love to be able to make but I'll keep trying:)
Beautiful knife and please send it to me :p
Peace
Bob

I was going along with the gag, until I scrolled down to the picture. NICE WORK! And from scraps, to boot. I really like your steel, too. Yes, sir!

 super nice looking knife. i like that grind. i bet that black pearl material shines like fire in the sun. Where did you get the black pearl material? did you have any trouble polishing it?

Thanks all.

I replaced the pics that I took last night with some I took today. Better, but still not great.

The stone is called Black Pearl Soapstone. Kinda some soft stuff, but easy to work and has a granite kinda look to it. Not good for a heavy user, but hey it is a scrap knife, right? ;)

Really it is, the blade has a few voids in it, even more than should be there for cable, plus the grind is very right hand heavy when you look down the edge. I can't even honestly tell you what I heat treated it to, that is if I even heat treated it???

The african blackwood was some extra that I bought to practice on before using it on that viking dagger i still need to finish. Man that blackwood is nice to work though, it started showing a nice satin glow at 240 grit. The thuya was from some scales I had cut and ruined when drilling the holes for some pins.

So, I think this one might be destined to go into the display case at the local restaurant.

It looks good from a far, but it is far from good.

Thanks again for the nice comments, I truely appreciate them.
