Hi, I'm looking to finally get a quality knife and have been looking at many of the knife compaines and does scrap yard have knives for sale?? They list knives and prices on there site but nothing listed in the place order section. does anyone have any experience with them, and do they only have stuff available time to time, or am I missing something, any info would be nice.

They announce a new knife, folks then order, they produce and then ship when ready. I have two(2) ..good stuff, reasonably priced, IMHO.

Learning their business model as to announcements and practicing patience required,YMMV.

Yeah, you have to watch their forums, and they'll announce on their (either Renee in red or "Dumpster Dan" in green, ordering is then open for a couple weeks, once all the orders are in they start making them and you get your knife in a month or two. However you can usually find several different models on the exchange forum here on BF at a marked up price (since they aren't being produced anymore). The regulator, a 7.5" bowie style knife at about .33 inches thick should be released any day now, so I'd just check their forums every week or so if you're interested in that one.

Check the exchange here, their often for sale.

Patience is definitely required, both for Scapyard and the 2 brother/sister companies. I rarely see anything actually on sale at their sites. I suppose it's a nice position to be in, to have your products in such demand.

By all reports though the Scapyard products are maybe the best bargains of the 3 companies, definitely sturdy stuff.

...just to say their knives are AWESOME! Just received this Scrapper 5:

Actually, knives are almost always available at the Busse Combat site. They're hit and miss at the sister sites (Scrap Yard and Swamp Rat), however.

If you take Jerry Busse at his word, retail sales are his lowest priority. That may account for why weeks or months can go by with nothing for sale at the sister sites. It may also account at least in part for why the demand for his products is so high and why such an active secondary market has developed around them. (The other reason, of course, is the fact that Jerry's knives are some of the toughest produced on this planet!)

This is probably your best bet if your in a hurry. Great knife for the money, but just a pain in the but to purchase one from their site. They usually sell out very quickly when a new one is released.

If retail is the lowest priority, what are the most important? just curious?

Really they use a different marketing model. They create demand because they make first rate products, but also because they produce in small batches. When knife models are discontinued, they are discontinued indefinitely or at least for long stretches at at time. For winner models, this serves to create even more demand. Finally, people often make a little money selling on the 2nd market. This feeds to the demand more and makes the 2nd seller's market worth entering.

All of folks, used to the "consumer is always right" mentality rebuke at this. It runs counter to what they think sales should be about. These types don't really worry the Busse/kin owners much because they aren't part of their market anyway and demand is good, or at least seem good enough that they are happy with it. It is a family run enterprise. They seem to be happy with limits on what that enterprise makes fiscally and enjoy being the top dogs so to speak in what consumer wants.

I had two scrapyards, traded one and kept the SOD which I like and think is a great blade that came at a great price. I lucked into getting the SOD by visiting the store at the right time, them offering the right knife for me and my just so happening to have the money to buy one. Wait times are about 6 weeks from ordering at Scrapyard because they take all the orders first and then process all the knives in a lump batch.

Thanks to all that posted about scrap yard knives. I kind of get how they work know and the Busse knife companys work, and while they may make some great knives by what I have read on this forum I will take my money some where else. I like to do business with companies where I'm there target customers, not fill in work. I don't like dealing with people that can't provide constant product! And if I find a knife that I trust and like or I break it, damage it beyond repair, lose it or it grows legs I can't get another one from them as they won't be for sale again, and who know when they will make another knife at all much less in the style im looking for,and in my book that makes them unreliable.

Yep. Busse are nothing if not unreliable... Especially when it comes to warranty work...
