Are they worth it?
Do they have they same expectations as Swamp Rat blades?
Will they be there tomorrow to back up their guarantee?
How strong are they really?
Can I expect to buy some for collection and sell them in a few years at a profit?
Are they just a gimmick flash in the pan?
I was at the website ready to order 2 black and 4 limiteds and realized as I went to click to buy now that I have heard NOTHING about them.
Good bad or indifferent.
Blade Forum, please enlighten me before I spend my very hard earned money!

First of all Scrap Yard & Swamp Rat are a spin off of Busse. So, there should be no worries there. I do not own one, yet. YES, I would NOT hesitate to buy one. I am sure someone who DOES own one, WILL chime in.

They are very good blades for the money. I recently got 2 black scrapper 6's, one for myself and the other for a mate. So far so good. They are using knives though and i doubt they will every become that valuable.

That's what swamp rat and busse started as too. Now look at the prices! lol.

I have a Scrapper 6 and it is great. Will they be valuable? Look at what happened with the Swamp. People still love the Res-c handles on the Busse and Swamp Rat lines from the past. These knives all appreciated in value. While past performance is not a guarentee of the future, you could make worse bets!

Scrapyard is diff. It will have some knives that come out in SR-77, SR-101, Infi and other steels(which is the rumor around the doghouse). I have my S-6 and have done alot with it, I have put it through an Stove Exhaust and tore apart a set of stairs with it. Chopped, pryed and sliced. I would say it is a much better chopping steel than slicing steel as its edge retention is not as great as Infi but it is not bad either. I reprofiled my edge to slice better and it has performed much better. I think the grind from the factory is a little thick but thats me. Keep on the lookout for these knives, once they start out with their big choppers and infi pieces I think they'll take off.

I got a black and an LE just to check them out. They feel pretty good in the hand (Res-C) with nice balance. I'm thinking about a couple more "just-in-case" they appreciate. Actually, can't see how they won't- good knife, low price- as soon as they go out of production I'll bet the price goes up- meanwhile good indestructible hard use knife for those who still want Res-C in something smaller than a Camp Tramp, but bigger than a Howling Rat.

My $.02 = you can't go wrong

That about sums it up Barabbas,SR-77 the "Jackhammer Tool Steel" is what it is. Damn hard steel. When it comes to holding a razors edge, that's not what it was developed for. Chopping and gouging at things is more what it is designed for. I get it now.
Thanks you saved me about $600.00 this evening that I could easily put into another blade that is meant to be carried as a knife, used and hold a edge like a knife.
I somehow thought that since it was being run by Ms.Busse it would have access to the finest heat treating and honing machines in the business. My mistake. I was confusing it with Busse who as we all know makes the outdoor knife period. I'll save my money and wait till I see another deal that looks to good to be true. Like Busse Game Wardens for $150.00 each plus shipping! LOL.
Peace.

It's S-7, so the HT can only do so much. I wouldn't mind the steel on a chopping design, but it's no benefit on a 6" blade, imo.

Lol I hope I dont shy you away from Scrapyard all together, the S-6 is very comfortable in resperine and is just a very good buy for 100 bucks. The thing is super thick so if you were looking for more of a slicer it wouldnt have been your choice. Scrap Yard will have some knives coming out that you might wanna look out for especially some of the smaller ones and the Mojo's. You can only do so much with each steel, heat treat or not. I think this S-6 and the next one(a big chopper) are meant more as choppers and pryers. When the infi pieces come out and some of the others it will be interesting to see what hardness's they are done with and how thick they will be.

I dont think the deal is too good to be true, its a good knife with a good price, its just not meant to be a pure slicer. I know all knives should slice well this one is just much better at impacts. I hope you give the Scrapyard another look in terms of the future. I know the S-6 may not be for you but look them up in the future I think you'll see them around.

I agree but its their flagship steel and I know they wanted to get it out their and see what people think of it. After I brought the primary edge back and made the cutting edge thinner it performed much better, but this knife in A-2 might be better.

I don't know about that interpretation, i have four knives made of S7 and i like them a lot. i would say that if all you do is slice soft media that S7 would be overkill so far as toughness is concerned, and if you are shapenophobic and abrasion resistance is your only priority, it probably wouldn't be your steel of choice. It is, however, my favorite blade steel, and as far as six-inch bowie-style knives go, you can't do much better than a Scrapyard - i have two and i love them. Since micro-chipping is a big part of edge-holding, and since it's easier to correct a roll than a chip, i'll take a tougher, less deformation-resistant steel over the new "super-stainless" steels any day, particularly in a larger knife like these. As far as resale value or long-term investment value, i have no idea and couln't care less since i use my knives and don't sell the ones i like. easy,

They're terrible.... I definitely don't love mine......DON'T BUY ANY ESPECIALLY NOT THE UPCOMING 10IN BOWIE!!!!......;)

Scrap Yard is run by Jerry Busse's brother Dan and Dan's wife Patti. And as far as i know they have access to everything Jerry does. I guess i don't see how you got any of your interpretation out of what was said...

I may be mistaken, but I don't believe that ScrapYard Knives is run by Ms. Busse. She runs Swamp Rat. ScrapYard is run by another Busse family member - in another state in fact (Texas), if I remember correctly.

I have one and I have beaten it to death and it keeps on going...Get yourself one and have a go...

I just got mine in the mail today!! :D

It's my first knife of its kind..

I really really really like it...

And I only paid like 100 for it (With shipping etc.)

Not bad at all.

IF a 10'' Bowie came out I'd probably buy that one too.

Got a Scrapper 6 last week and tested it along with 4 other edged weapons on Saturday.Test results and photos posted on another forum--

http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/780029/

Upon arriving home noted that the Scrapper 6 had sustained a chipped edge(1/16" or so)

Wrote Scrap Yard and asked them how I could repair it.

Any suggestions??

Any other owners of Scrap Yard Knives have the same thing happen??

Only struck trees with it...

Still very surprised and disappointed it happened-as it was the first time I used it.

Sincerely

Dr.Bill
