Any of you with experience in Scrap Yard Knives? I'm looking at the Dog Father. Looks like a beast at a reasonable price. How does it compare to Busse or Swamp Rat?

If I'm not mistaken Scrap Yard is from the same family as Busse and SR. I dont have a Scrap Yard but have heard nothing but good things. I'm shure you will get some owners and users commenting on there actual preformance.

I'm holding two Dog Father Bowies right now.

Respirene C handles (rubber-like but far firmer, tougher, and chemically inert). Long, strong, black coated S77 steel blade (S77 is a specially treated version of S7 shock steel).

An excellent chopper.

AFAICT, Scrapyard is the Busse family member that focusses on the most knife for the money, while retaining the legendary Busse attitude and business practices. That said, they are a separate and distinct business and are not run by the original, Mr. Jerry Busse.

I have knives from Busse Combat, Swamprat Knife Works, and Scrapyard Knives. All excellent blades made of excellent steel with absolutely outstanding warranties.

Busse Combat knives are mostly made from proprietary INFI steel and are performance with absolutely no compromises. They've come in various sizes and shapes over the years. A mid-sized knife, the Badger Attack TAC, is available for sale right now.

Swamprat and Scrapyard use less expensive, more readily available steels at the moment. Visit their independent web-sites and you'll get more information fast.

Hope this helps.

I just picked up a Swamp Rat custom shop model on a trade. Like a 4" blade with serrations on the top and in between the serrations a nice edge part. Kind of like double edged. Just spent a fair amount of time sharpening it as the edge is quite thick. It will be my new bed stand buddy on top of where I have my .45 holstered. Actually the .45 is underneath the table top in a holster that is attached with velcro.

I really like the handle material. Firm but grippy but not sticky and it doesn't feel like it will stick to your clothing. Hey cool little knife and put together very well. keepem sharp

Man, I'm on a roll this week! Just ordered my first Busse. Thanks Old Physics. :D

Hooray for tax returns!

edit:spelling

I have all 3 knives from Scrapyard

EVERY release I have been there to represent

I have not been dissapointed!

They're GREAT! Just got my Dogfather today. This is my first Busse family knife - Scrapyard is definately a bargain as well. Dan and Patti Busse make tough blades and have excellent customer service. The Dogfather:

I was just outside chopping on a stump with my new DogFather,

it is a beast.

Nothing light weight or delicate about it.
Get the feeling that I could just hack my way through anything.:D

I haven't been outside yet... but I get that same feeling! I might go out and try cutting my wife's car in half for now, since I won't get to the woods for a couple of days...

Diceman: That Dog Father looks like a beast. I just love rubbery handles for chopping. Thanks. I think I will order one asap. Does it come with a sheath?

The 2nd run should be coming before too long though - Sheath was like $18. The limited edition (satin finish) Dog Fathers will be coming sooner than the 2nd batch of Combat Grade DF's - will be a little more expensive though. (Vic - if you're really interested in getting a Scrapyard, jump on the forum over at the Scrapyard site.)

Thanks. I read about them on the Swamp Rat forum. Went to order, but the DF is not listed on order page, so I guess they are sold out. I'd rather have it in satin anyway. I'll keep checking. Thanks for the info.

as tough, if not tougher, less edge retention, if i understand it right

here are some comparison pics with a Dog Father, a FBM, a Camp Tramp and an M6
