This may sound like dumb question but are the knives listed on the SYKO and Scrap Yard websites in stock and ready to ship? So if the Scrap Yard site is showing a 4.5 and I order it is something they would have in stock right? thanks and keepem sharp

I emailed Renne from SYKCO a couple weeks ago and she said there knives are currently in production and ship 2-4 weeks after placing your order.

Thats a pretty short wait time really and there knives are well worth it!

I ordered a 311 on 3/16 and just got it today 3/30. They can take up to 8 weeks to ship depending on runs and stock...

I ordered a 711 yesterday and was quoted "the next few weeks." It's better then being quoted 2 weeks by a long shot.:D

I don't know why they don't just say there is a waiting time of up to 8 weeks or whatever. It wouldn't be hard to do.

It seems the "how to" in buying a Busse-kin blade is a closely guarded secret. Why does Swamp Rat have 3 websites and 2 that sell knives? Different knives.

All part of the fun.

Well worth the wait time. You cannot beat the direct price from Scrap Yard. If you go on the exchange, and try to buy an older model, expect to pay an increased price (often by a lot).

I'm liking the 311 but "mike" didn't do a great job sharpening it. This is the dullest blade I have ever seen out of the box. It will not even slice cardboard. I have been literally playing catch with the knife and grabbing the edge with my bare hands because its so amusingly dull. You can push the knife down on any bare skin and slice with moderate pressure and all it does is leave a white line... it doesn't grab any skin or even begin to make any sort of cut whatsoever. I would never do this with any other knife i own. Luckily this is easily remedied with a little therapeutic knife sharpening, still a great knife, but man, c'mon mike!

That's too bad. "Mike" got my most recent RatManDu and Rodent Solution bevels just about perfect - and sharp. Best I've seen yet for Bussekin.

Well, its by no means a deal breaker. However, as much as I enjoy sharpening, I'm half-temped to send it back to them to have it re-sharpened because for all intents and purposes I was sent a non-functional blade. I'm really liking everything else about it and I can't wait to use it when thats all said and done.

*edit*
Does anyone have experience with sending in Scrap Yard knives and/or Bussekin customer service?

Scrapyard customer sevice will treat you right. I have never heard a bad thing about sending a knife to them ect. However, I personally would send it to RichardJ. He is the guru of the paper wheel, or he can put a convec edge on for you. At a fantastic price too.

If you are going to actually use it then just sharpen it yourself ... it'll get dull again.

If you aren't going to use it just leave it alone.

I have a few Busse and Scrap Yard knives and when ordering from them you can expect to wait longer if you order a new release . Like right now the 511 and 711 are still available , but where released quite some time ago . If you order one of those I think it will show up faster than say the 311 that might be still in the production stage . As for customer service , all the Busse kin are excellent . If you are not happy with your knife for any reason just call Renne (at Scrap Yard) and explain and they will look after you .

Renee and all the reps in the busse kin fam are awesome to deal with, i wish other places were half as good as them. And yes, the knives are worth it.
