Figured I'd share...I decided to turn one of my scrapivores into a paring knife.
First I striped her down: All I had available was nail polish remover...that and razor blades...took awhile. Then I sanded her up to 2500 grit., this went real fast on such a small blade.

Then I put a wood handle on her...I found this old piece of lumber (old 2x4) that I bought off ebay a long time ago, supposedly its aged mahogany (25 + yrs), I have no way of knowing...it only took one little slice of it for such a tiny handle. I also ground off the prybar pommel since this will be dedicated for food.

So, the knife was all nice and shiny and pretty... I took it over to a buddy's house on cinco de mayo...cut up calamansi limes with it for our margaritas... the citrus juice sat on the blade for no more than 15 min by accident (Tequila was involved)...when I discovered....MAJOR oxidation stains! I immediately cleaned it. Later that night, while drinking more Takillya, I tried to buff out the oxidation stains with 2500 grit sandpaper...The stains were too deep for that...I would have had to do major sanding...So, I decided that if this knife was going to be a kitchen knife, then it would be stupid to try and fight oxidation and keep it shiny...SR101 oxidizes ridiculously fast...there's no point in fighting it.

So...I cut up more calamansi and let the knife sit on it for 10 min or so...which produced a nice oxidation pattern. I then sanded it again with 2500 to get everything other than the dark pattern lines...it was now shiny with the dark patterns...then I let the whole blade soak in lime juice for 20 min or so to produce a dark gray patina over the whole blade...Well here it is:

This looks great! You have exploited potential in this blade that I never saw. I'm now tempted to replace my Henckels

Great project, it turned out nice.
I love the wood handle and patina.
