hi all,

i'm looking at picking up one or the other (and no i can't buy both right now) to be used as a general purpose field knife (with some possible gutting/skinning chores included). to the guys that own or have held both, what would you recommend?

thanks in advance,

scott

Sorry Scott, I'm unfamilar with either knife. However, I've read that the Ranger knives are top notch. The maker of Ranger knives however, is an active duty Army Ranger. Last I heard, he was soon to be deploying to the sand box again. I think Brigade Quartermasters stocks the RD6 You might want to grab one if they're still available.

I don't know if you have considered the Ontario line of RAT knives or the Becker line but both lines are very rugged users.

Good luck,

Bill

I'm afraid I don't have personal experience with the Scrapper 6.

From what I've read by the other "steel guys" (I mean this in the kindest way :D), modified S7 will make for a great chopping steel but probably won't be great for edge retention.

For a lot of precision cutting, I'd say the Ranger 5160 steel may be just a bit better.

A good place to ask may be the Scrap Yard Knife forum at their web site...you'll probably be able to get a response from people who have used a Scrapper.

Allow me to also suggest the Swamp Rat M6...available at http://www.ratknives.com/

If you like micarta, go with the ranger. If you think you would like the comfort of the res-c go with the scrap yard. That would be about the only decider for me. You won't go wrong with either.
