Some of you will remember my old thread "old school vs. new school", in that particular thread I discussed a short test, actually it was more for fun than really USING any of the knives tested. Well, for those that remember, my Dog Father had a chip out. It has since been sent back to the Scrapyard for repairs or replacement. Well, I bought a Scrapper 6 a couple of weeks ago, and put it in the safe. This weekend I went to the inlaws, they live in the Texas hill country, right as I was leaving, I thought to bring some knives. I had just recieved a Bark River sliver in the mail moments before we jumped in the truck, so I brought that along to check it out later. I grabbed a Gerber BMF, my SC6, and My own knife that I made for survival purposes. It has a 5" blade and Ironwood scales. 1/4" tool steel, and thats about it, nothing fancy. Well, I did alot of testing, I beat the everliving heck out of 3 of the 4. I left the BMF in my rifle bag, as I didn't really bring it to beat on. The Scrapper went head to head with my Survival knife. It won. The fact that my knife didn't break, made me love it, I did build it afterall. But the Scrapper was chopping and Batoned through everything in the wood pile. I split about 10 sectioned logs, ranging from 3" to 6". I cut through about 6 logs with it and I used it for all kinds of chores. I fashioned a fire bow with it, built 2 fires with it, sliced and diced everything I could find. I was so impressed with this little knife that I consider it THE knife I will bring with me in the woods. I got so worked up, I tossed the nylon sheath (not really!) and made a new one out of leather. Now its perfect. I did beat the little Bark river Slither a bit, I really like this knife as well, I didn't baton very much, I just did some wittling and camp chores, my wife even cut up the fish for dinner with it, she said it was an AWESOME knife. It holds a great edge, and I mean sharp. Oh yeah, I started the campfire with the old cotton ball and vasiline trick, one spark and floom, fire. A cool weekend, playing with some toys. Gene PS...sorry I left the camera at home guys.

I wanna see pics of the Sheath you made, been looking to make a sheath for my own SC6 just don't have any clue how I wanna do it. p,p,p,please!!

Sorry man, I have been going like a raped ape...here's the pic of the sheath. I used 9oz leather and synthetic sinew, brass chicago screws and black dye. I finished the sheath with 2 coats of low gloss from tandy leather. I ran the belt loop over and in the back, it serves as the retainer for the knife, you really have to yank it out. I like it 1000 times better than the nylon sheath. I just need a leather sheath for any knife I carry...Gene
