mod..I want to take out the handles and replace with micarta. i have agood idea what to do but does anybody have an idea of what it looks inside the handle??Anybody try this mod??

all the Busse family of knives I have seen with enclosed handles have straight tangs underneath, and will probably need to have the micarta mortised-which might also be good for putting pins around the perimeter of the tang.

It's the one on the bottom;)

The top one is the new Swamp Rat Howling Rat LM
The one in the middle is the second generation Howling Rat

Thanks ! Did you cut off the hole at the handle end ? If you please, what did you do with the knife, did you finish it?

that is a bog dog blank that was sold a while back. They were miscut without a hole in the tang. The tang is the same shape, as they use the same handle.

Okay, Thanks ! I plan to use two scales and cut out the inside to fit the handle. I think I will have enough handle metal to stick two pins to hold them together and also epoxied. Extra pins around the handles should work. Of course it won't be as tough as the original but for light use, should hold.

It does not look like a good canidate for a slab style handle with that narrow tang. I am not moding my scrapper but if I did I would put a scandi style handle on it and polish the blade. A nice maple or curly birch handle and a polished INFI
blade would make a really nice dress EDC. The S7 SS4 if and when it comes out is only going to cost69.95 and while not as corrosion resistant as INFI would make another good potential project.

Yup that's correct.... picked up a bunch of them... Jerry had them listed as "52-100 Mod Drop" I believe.... haven't finished any of them yet... gonna do hidden tangs with micarta and stabilized wood.... should be a nice project.....:D
