I am looking for a heavier alternative for my BK-7 in the same size range and have been dying for a bussekin. I figured the SYKCO 711 would be a good choice but before I make a decision I would like to see a size comparison, what about a performance comparison? (chop tests ect. ) Is their a different option in the same or lower price range? Like I said I'm looking for something heavier and a better chopper than the BK-7.

Thanks,
~Jake

The SYKCO 711 is just over an ounce heavier than the BK7 - not really significant, IMO. Also, the cutting edge of the 711 is shorter than that of the BK, even though the blade is noticeably longer. Performance wise, I can't comment; I haven't used my 711 (YET)

The Ontario RD7 (not the Bush version) is nearly 5 oz heavier than the BK7....and it's 5160. The problem is that the RD has a more obtuse blade angle, so it doesn't do as well in some aspects. (My personal experience was that my RD7 was better in batoning, and about equal in chopping, compared to the BK7. (see comments & pic here)

Realistically, you'll be hard pressed to match the BK7s performance at the same, or a lower, price. If you're just looking for improved chopping ability, think axe/hatchet...or, you could just get a BK9

Thanks for the comparison, and yes I realize its near impossible to match the BK-7 in its price range but I was talking about in the price range of the 711. I also do have a BK-9, To big for belt carry IMHO. Also get back to me when you compare the BK-7 to the 711.
