Hello everybody,
I have had my eye on the scrap yard dogfather for a while. I like it because it is around the same shape as a Busse FBM but it costs less. I looked at the specs and saw it was made of a steel called SR-77, i had never heard of this steel before. Can you give me your thoughts on how tough the steel actually is, and does it compare to INFI? thanks

S7 is a jackhammer steel, yes, its very tough, and with the Busse proprietary heat treat its even tougher.

INFI has an "edge" in edge holding and toughness, but the difference isnt noticeable under normal use. You will have to sharpen the DF a little more often, but for the price difference, who cares? ;)

Toughness wise it's about the same as INFI. INFI is more stain resistant and holds an edge better. I was around at the scrapyard when they were released and picked one up. If your looking for a no frills your not likely to break it chopper the DF is the knife.

The scrap Yard Forums has all the info you want on the knife and the steel....

These are picks of it being tested buy the Scrap Yard.

Tough knife.......

A plus for the Scrap Yard is Res C...when you are chopping- it's comfortable stuff!

I don't have a DF, but I have it's cousin the Battle Rat and it is awesome!!

I abused one of these a couple of years ago. The pics survived but the video is gone, unfortunately.

It's pretty damned tough. The knife itself really isn't my cup of tea but both the handle and the steel continue to impress me. These are very well made knives.

you can preorder a S5 at their website and monitor it for new releases, other than that it's the 2'ary market!

This steel is incredible, where can i buy scrapyard knives??

The Scrapper 5 LE is available for preorder right now, but it's not the same steel. The steel being offered right now is INFI which is considered to be a better overall steel than the SR-77 found in the Dogfather model.

Just google "Scrap Yard Knives"

dont have the Dogfather, but i have the Son Of Dogfather (SOD). TOUGH KNIFE wicked chopper, good slicer when convexed and stropped. If i had to grab only two blades for the rest of my life, it would be ,my SOD and my S5

The DMLE had a different handle....

The LE and Double Cut both have that handle, the original Dumpster Mutt had Busse Basic leftover handles. I have a Double Cut DM.

An important point to remember is-

THEY ARE GUARANTEED FOREVER

There have been guys flat out abuse their Busse kin knives, read that as in literally cutting their way out of cars with them and chopping through chains, and their warranty has always been honored.

Thats worth money in my book.

Actually the the original DM and the DMLE both had the busse left over handles and the DMDC had the regular handle. I believe your correct it is a DMDC. mistakes are sometimes easy to make with Busses LOL. I should know better I owned both the DM and the DMDC.
