Scrapyard Knife Prices??

What can I expect to pay for a scrapyard knife? Their MSRP seems to be lower than what I see them going for, if you can find them.

Are they worth the investment?

Very worth it, its a bussekin knife so they make a run of them and then move on to a new run. Aftermarket is always going to be higher so get them from the factory while you can.

The "if you can find them" seems to be key. All the Busse related companies seem to do small runs of soon-discontinued blades for rampant collectors, be prepared to look in the "for sale area" basically, maybe less so for Scrapyard than the other 2.

Great business to be in I guess, having more customers than you can make product for, though those that wonder if it's all worth it keep wondering as they can't even buy the product.

By all accounts though Scrapyard makes no BS stuff that's tougher than nails. Literally! Look at Noss's reviews!

I just bought a Yard Guard tonight, had to pay $60 over MSRP to get it. The knife test review on the scrapper 6 sold me. Hopefully I didn't overpay too much. Anyone have sheath recommendations for it? I've been checking out the Spec-Op Combat master.

MassMutt, where do I find that Noss review?

Talk to Rainwalker for a sheath. He has made Kydex pants for two of my S5's and a ScrapMuk. Wonderful job.

You can always email Scrapyard. They have more sheaths for sale than knives - they answer emails promptly which was refreshing in the 3 exchanges I've had with them!

Scrapyards are great knives and if you can get them when the company is selling them get them while you can because after that you will pay anywhere between $50-$100 more for them.

You can go to their website and pickup the 6" condura sheath for $19.95, it will fit the Scrapper 6 really good.

Watch out, Scrappers are leading directly into Busse knives... Excellent knives- I got modded Dumpster Mutt and I love it now I am just fighting urge to buy immediately a true Busse with INFI. I need to buy something else too, not just knives :D

Best thing about scrappers is their warranty and selling price of their knife when they sell. After they discontinue, prices rise quite significantly. So get them while you can from the Scrapperyard shop. They have excellent price and quality ratio. After all you don't expect to find many Bussekin knives under $150 MSRP easily.

There really is no MSRP for Busse, Scrapyard or Swamprat knives.
Why? Because they sell direct. Either that, or the very few dealers pretty much have set prices because Jerry and Co. don't provide much discount to wholesalers, because they are already providing you with very low prices for the knives that you are getting.... As far as I know....

If you are patient, between shows and direct offerings, you can usually snag a SY for a reasonable price. Second hand, you'll usually get stuck with that big markup - it's the price you pay for instant gratification.

Shows are really the way to go, if you can make your way to one of the shows where they have a table, or get someone to proxy for you at one of said shows. When I was briefly actively involved with shows, I probably bought a couple grand worth of knives, that were all proxys for other knife users. I think I've actually spent more at shows for other people than for myself. Kind of fun spending someone else's money :D

There is usually a pretty decent selection of older models and more recent stuff at the shows. The second hand market is a killer for the big markups.

Where on their website, I'm on it now and I don't see anything. I need one for my desert tan Dumpster Mutt that I bought at Knob Creek yesterday.

Thanks,

Al

I emailed them and asked about a sheath for the yard guard, they said they didn't have anything. Now I just need to decide if I'm going kydex or Cordura. Rainwalker seems to be a good option. I like the way that the ESEE sheaths are set up, I think I could replicate this with a Rainwalker sheath. The Spec-op sheath looks good, but it says its good for up to .25 inch blade, the yard guard is slightly wider, not sure if that would be a big deal.

Ordered an 8" Spec-Ops Navigator Long last week and it came in Mon. All I can say is.... Impressive! Built like a tank. Best nylon sheath I've have ever handled, very stout. Made in the U.S. and definitely built to withstand anything I could ever throw at it.
Sicario, before you purchase the Combat Master you have linked, have a look here first :

Or here....

Thanks for the link.

So it looks like there are 3 different sheaths (navigator, combat master, and Survivor Sheath) with the main difference being the pouch on the front.

Decisions decisions.
