I have a 3 piece Lansky sharpening kit with 120, 280, and 600 grit stones. It works great for my everyday Kershaw and Gerber folders but what about my SR101 Scrapper 5?

Your in the wrong section and we'll need more info than that, like what problems are you having.

If your Lansky isn't working... ???

If you want in convex edge then sandpaper and mouse pad method is easy enough. Stones work well of course. But if you want something more "fool-proof" the Apex Edge Pro works great. I've used mine on everything from my folders all the way up to my Busse AK.

But yeah, I think this needs to go in a different place. :D Good luck.

Is knife sharpening not a skill I can hone? Not sure what section it needs to be in then. Thanks for the responses though. I just wasn't sure if I needed something more to sharpen the SR101 steel?

I've used a lansky on my scrapyard knives, but it's tough because it seems like the clamp on the jig is more suited to to narrower stock. It's taken maybe 2 hours to get the edge I wanted because the lansky ends up reprofiling the edge. Now I have gotten good just using stones on thick stock and that what will be on me while outdoors anyway.

Welcome to BF, I see you have the same thread over at the SY forums... hope you got some of the answers you needed. If not then the MT&E section is where we talk about sharpening and prac tac if you look at some of the other threads in here is obviously not related to maintenance of a knife.

SR101 is also known as 52100 ball bearing steel, its a fine grain carbon alloy that sharpenes fairly easily, gets REALLY sharp, and holds its edge for a good amount of time. Your lansky is best used for thinner folders and not really ideal for a FB like the S5, I'm sure it could work but again not ideal.
