Looking around for my next purchase and have finally realized that spending $50-$120 3-4 times doesn't make much since when I could spend less on just one knife. So I have some questions for the experience users.........

The metal is SR-101 / 58-60 Rc, I hate that paint job and want to sand it down. Hows the rust resistance compared to 1095, better or worse?

Hows it chop and general ergonomics compared to an Ontario Rat 7? I'm not concerned about strength, I have already seen a zillion reviews talking about it's tank like strength. But the chopping and the ergos are a big question for me.

How does it baton?<-----YEAH, I'M GONNA BATON THE $#!% OUT OF THIS THING, I DO WITH MOST ALL MY KNIVES!!!!!

Thanks in advance

You can beat the living hell out of it and it will be fine. Batoning is encouraged :)

Normal clean up care should be taken with the steel after use, like any quality tool. I usually give mine a squirt with WD40 or a wipe with an oily rag. It will form a patina, and if you can force one on it, the better corrosion resistance you will have.

Pictures and/or videos or your knife beatings are mandatory :)

Here's me thrashing on a Swamp Rat M9 - SR101 steel. Takes and awesome edge and holds it well...

Don't sand it down as it may get too hot, etc...strip it, several good threads on that topic and probably a video or few on the Tube.

This is the Busse forum, but I can shed some light on the 711 as a batoning tool. It does great! Took several knives on a camping trip late last summer and decided to start my fire prep chores with the 711, there was no need to grab any other knife that week for these tasks.

The 711 is a great knife. The handle fills your hand and is comfortable in various grips. For me this knife is about perfect when the question is asked "if only one knife". For me I prefer the 911 and the 411 combo.

To me, it is my best all-rounder.
The ergonomics of the res-c handle is perfect. You can chop till you drop, and your hand feels fine. It is the most unsophisticated I own, and for that I love it.
Batoning will be a breeze! The thick spine just cracks open the wood.

Oh, and yes, strip it, if you want the coating off. Just use ordinary paintstripper. Don't worry about the handle. Won't get affected.

Strip it! I will try to post mine today on here. Its not the black. Mine is all tan.
Great all around blade. Corrosion is better than 1095. It holds its edge well too!
I used a trail master for years and love it but this 711 will be my new beater because its better all around. Handle feels great and the choil actually is very usefull!

I really would like to see a stripped down 711

Well, I just ordered it. I saw a review online that said it usually takes 3 weeks or more? Anyone else have that experience?

3 weeks is a pretty fast turn around, so consider yourself lucky, if you have your knife in hand so soon. I waited a month and a half. But that was when is was released.

During the wait, you can get a sheath headed your way... Either a custom or Spec-Ops alternative.

Good luck on that one! I ordered a 511 from scrapyard about month and a half to two months ago.....still not here. Renee told me expect 4-16 weeks.

Or you could hop over to the busse section for sale here on bf and pick up a sweet one on the aftermarket. Probably pay a little more, but if you need it quick.....I ended up making a trade for mine because I'm impatient!

Good things come to those who wait!.lol...
You'll love it! If not sell it on the exchange. They sell really quick! Mine is a keeper!

Yeah, I emailed her and she said the same thing to me. I believe she is just giving a stock answer. I'm sure they know exactly how many knives are in front of mine and could be more accurate than 1-4 months. On top of it all, certain famous YouTuber just gave a 10 star review of it about a week before I put in my order. Hope it had no effect, even though I like the guy, lol.

I think more people are now going to order the knife because of his review that's almost for sure.

Well they just charged my account. Anyone know how long after your account got charged it took to get your knife?
