Scratch on satin finiish

Hello all! I've got a nice custom folder that has a hand rubbed satin finnish on the blade. Well, touching up the edge a bit on the sharpmaker I (not the sharpmaker) put a little scratch on the middle of the blade. Dont want to trouble the maker to fix up a 1/4" scratch if I can do it myself without too much fuss. My question is How?
The steel is CPM 440V and it's a tanto (appleseed) grind. Is it possible to fix up a little scratch without having to redo the entire blade? If beyond my capability I'll go a head and ask the maker, because it's a noticeable blemish on an otherwise beautiful blade. And I promise no to do it again!
Thanks.

Quiet Priest:

I really wouldn't worry about it. Scratches will inevitably show up on your knife, and if you worry about every scratch then you won't have a knife after 6 months from all of the polishing!

To get rid if the scratch, you have to sand the whole blade. If you don't feel like you could geep the geometries "clean", then your best bet is to send it to the maker to have him/her do it. But like I said, you'll probably scratch it again in a week or 2 after you get it back.

Yeah, you are right, It will scratch again.

I guess once you put a scratch a a custom blade it sort of forces a commitment on you that it is yours, and not something that you are holding for someone else down the line.

The knife is a fighter and in a sense keeping it pristine would sort of mean that I dont fight and therefore havent used it ( a good thing!) the prettyness factor is blemished but not the usefulness. No I dont want to work the whole blade over, so I'll just keep it as my carry fighter, I have another that I will not mess with and use as a show off kinda knife. But this is the one that If I was in a situation that I needed a knife I would want to be the one...

Maybe I'll see an infomercial down the road about "fix those ugly scratches injust one wipe!...Miracle Scratch Remover..."

Go to a jewelery supply store and get one of those abrasive rubber blocks expressly for putting a fine satin finish on stainless steel and other metals. I forget the name of the product but I will check when I get home. You can find them on Frei and Borels webpage. They come in 3 different grit sizes. I use mine on a 3K watch and you wont believe how well it works.

!!! Wow, Great, The scratch is on one of the fromt of the tanto bevels, sounds like the solution thanks, Dave!
