Scratch or crack?

I can feel it with my fingernail. I don’t think it came from the factory with it. I was outside testing it on some wood. Maybe some sand got in the sheath. I don’t mind the scratch, I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something else weird.
The knife itself is great. Perfect size for a small knife to have while out at state parks with the kiddos. The handles are very comfortable. I emailed The Knife Connection and he said they are planning of making scales for it, just doesn’t know when yet. If you haven’t grabbed one, I highly recommend it.

I'd say scratch as well. How do you like the knife otherwise? Got one on my list...
It’s a great size and shape. I really like it. Waiting for the weather to get nicer and head outside with it. It would look so good with some micarta scales on it

Scratch.
Not where a crack would normally form or the direction.
I'd take a good look inside the sheath with a light to be sure nothing's there but it also could have happened during use. The steel is pretty tough (and hard) stuff and that would be from something hard like a rock, metallic or a small pebble that got inside the sheath. Wood wouldn't have the hardness to do that. Something hard and sharp, with enough pressure.

I bet it was from when I put the blade down in between the slats on my deck in the backyard. Small stones get stuck in there and I bet it scratched it

Weird I just picked one of these up myself. Love everything about it other than the scale color I may try to dye it....

As it pertains to the mark going laterally like that, it is almost surely a scratch not a crack. S35VN is a fairly tough steel, ESEE/ROWEN is known to do a good job treating their steel, and lateral cracks like that are going to be catastrophic enough that I am almost positive you would know if it was a crack or not and exactly when it happened.

The great thing about the ESEE warranty is you can beat the hell out of it and not worry one way or the other.
