Scratch

A while ago, I bought a Spyderco Waterway (LC200n steel). Great knife all around but there was a scratch on the sharpened edge. No big deal although it bothered me slightly that this otherwise perfect knife came with this blemish. Fast forward a year and I decided to buy this same knife as a gift for someone. Lo and behold, the exact same scratch in exactly the same place! Seems like this is a feature and not a bug 😵‍💫.

Two questions; any idea how this scratch was formed and how can I get rid of it? The picture below doesn’t quite show the extent of the scratch but you get the idea. In real life, the scratch is much more pronounced and light colored and you can see it clearly, even in dim lighting. Thanks

Is it deep like a scratch, easy to be felt with the fingernail? Or is it as D Danke42 said, a piece of the sheath stuck to the blade?

I recall mine came with the occasional sheath material sliced and sticking to the blade for a short while. Easy to wipe off, though. That’s why I ask if it’s actually a scratch or otherwise somehow adhered to the blade.

The sheath is top notch, slim taco style with just the right amount of retention on my example. Very good knife/sheath combo that I wish they made more of.

If it’s an actual scratch, can you take closer clearer pictures?

Definitely a scratch. Sorry, my phone is just not cooperating but here’s the best shot I’ve been able to take

When a "scratch" is deep enough to cast a shadow into itself, I'd call that a gouge.

I'd be concerned about the strength of the edge around that spot. I wouldn't want to be cutting something tough and have a piece of the edge break off. I'd contact Spyderco about a replacement. I wouldn't consider that acceptable on a new knife.

Thanks, yes, that is a concern. I’m going to get in touch with Spyderco. Thanks
