Scratched Blade

I just got a new (to me) used Spydie Centofante 4, and I love it, except that the prior owner had scrubbed the VG10 blade with steel wool or similar, so there are surface scratches all over it. Any suggestions for cleaning up the scratches? I was thinking 0000 steel wool (if I can find it) or buffing compound, but I don't know which one, or how to apply it, so I was hoping for your help.

Thanks all!

If you don't mind the blade not having a mirror polish, you could use a 1200 or 2400 grit wet dry sand paper. Go in the same direction and it will remove those scratches. The higher grit you use, the better the polish will be, but it won't be a mirror polish.

once you get to this point, try using some kind of metal polish like Flitz (I use Blue Magic) and get those little felt pads. (like what you put under chair legs) I got a little drill mandral (something you would put a sanding disk in and put into a drill) and stick the felt pad on this and use a little polish and you can get your mirror finish back. **check the rotation around the blade edge. I rotate outward to keep the blade from cutting the pad.

hope this helps. *edit to say, got this idea from Esav(thanks)

I was actually just going over the knife with Maas, or some such (I had it under the sink, who knows?), and it seems I'm back to more or less stock, with the little grind lines and everything, except for slightly softened "creases" between surfaces, although it was kind of like that when I got it, due to the steel-wooling.

Thanks for your help, all, and I think I may try that felt and dremel bit.
