Scratched the blade while sharpening on my Sharpmaker

I scratched the blade of one of my favorite knives while sharpening it on my Sharpmaker. Who would be an appropriate person to take the knife to to get the scratches buffed out? I used some Flitz to see if that would take the scratches out, but they're a little too deep to be just rubbed out with polish and a paper towel.

does it affect the function? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

All my knives have scratches of one sort or another. it's part of their character!

Take care,
Brett

fill out your profile so we know a little more about you. its hard to tell you where to send a knife if we dont know where you are from. can you post picks of the scratches?

If the knife is a "safe queen", presentation knife, worth more than $89,136.00 U.S. dollars or 52,000 pounds, I'd say send it somewhere and get it fixed....quick!

Otherwise, you're sharpening it so it'll be ready for its next use. It'll get scratched during that use and the scratch it has now will have a "mate".

I agree about filling out the profiles, especially so it shows where you're from under your "join date" in the upper right corner. This should be a registration requirement.

Oh, by the way Kuntzhaus, welcome to the forum!!! ((( :D )))

If it was "deep" scratch you could work your way from 400 grit Wet&Dry to a 1000 and use Polishing paper And then use your buff wheel.A good tip is to use a liquid polish as a lubricant on said wheel.
Practice on a knife you do not care about and you would be amazed what can do.

I don't think the scratch will affect the knife, but there are lots of ways to get it fixed.

I'm going to assume that this favorite knife of yours is a user ? If it is , it is only a matter of time before it gets scratch. If its a safe queen, why are you sharpening it? Y ou might want to take a picture of it for us so we can see how bad the damage is .

If they get used, they will get scratched anyways. If they don't get used, you don't need to sharpen them.

i've sharpened a lot of knives on a sharpmaker and i havent scuffed up any of them, FWIW, ya just have to be carefull.

i have plenty of knives which arent scuffed/scratched up, i dont cut stuff with mine which will scuff 'em up, i have a utility knife for that, the ones i carry primarily for SD dont see any utility use thus they dont get scuffed up.

i can understand the guys frustrations, i have never been the type to think scuffs give a knife character or any of that BS, to me a scuffed up knife looks like, well, a scuffed up knife lol, it certainly isnt a added bonus, YMMV though,

so sure its possible to carry one daily and the blade not to get scuffed up, even if ya use them, i carry a spyderco delica SE for utility and a emerson specwar CQC13, emerson CQC12 or a spyderco ti ATR strictly for SD, and because i collect knives and enjoy packing a nice one.

as far as removing a scuff, i suppose any good 'smith could do that as long as its not a coated blade, ya just have to buff it out. is it worth it to send it off to get a scuff removed? i scuffed the blade on my crawford perfigo and did just that, i dont know if i'd do it with a production knife though, would just depend.
