Anybody have any suggestions about polishing off light scratches on carbon fiber scales? Is it possible? How about giving it a matte finish?

Anybody know the answer to this? Sal, can you give one of your customers a helpful hint if you are out there?

I would like to know too. Also how do you make it a mat finish.

Greetings.

I too had this problem. When I got my first CF spydie, a fellow forumite had put a beautiful matted finish on it with 220-grit paper and a brush. It is beautiful.

I got a second, and was horribly disappointed by the fit and finish of the CF scales. The CF itself was flaked around the screw holes and lanyard hole, and frankly, the polished finish looked like cheap plastic.

Because I am NO finish carpenter, I sent a note to Spyderco, and asked what they would charge to refinish it for me. They said "we do no custom work" and "if you alter it the warranty is void".

Oh.

So, I have sent off to a fellow forumite who knows how to do all kinds of knifey things. You all know him. When he's done, we'll post pics.

Thanks,I just traded for a CF Police and plan on useing it.When it gets scratched up I will have to try that.

I was disappointed with my CF Delica. The CF is chipped around the screw holes and the steel insert of the lanyard hole is very rough on one side.
The shiny Carbon Fibre does look tacky and cheap, matt would be a big improvement.
Go FRN!!

A friend built the Darrell Ralph kit knife with carbon fiber scales. Based upon his research and experience, carbon fiber can be sanded to low grit or high grit just like wood or G-10. It should be done with a dust respirator and you should clean up your dust afterwards. The carbon fiber particles are more hazardous than other materials upon inhalation.
