Hey guys, I was wondering if there was any way you could remove scratches from a blade like this:

I don't really care if the knife doesn't look like it's new, I just want to get the majority of the scratches off of it...

Thanks in advance,

I would start with very fine grit sandpaper (2500) and work my way down until you saw the scratches disappear...eg, 2500, 2000, 1500. The scratches left by the sandpaper can then be removed by working your way back up...eg, 1500, 2000, 2500. Then some stropping compound to buff. I have never used it, but I hear Flitz is a good metal polishing compound, but I believe it is for mirror like finishes. Don't quote me on that one though.

polish compound on a buffing wheel, make sure you don't get to fine of a polish unless you want your blade to look like a mirror.

Mother's Mag or Aluminum Polish, Maas Metal Polish, or Flitz will work, but you might end up with a shiny spot if not careful. Mother's can be found at any Advance/Autozone type store.

To remove scratches and match any finish, you must use the same grit abrasive the piece was finished with, and use it in the same direction.
You can use finer, or coarser, grits in a different direction, but the finish won't be the same.
If any of this is foreign to you, you should let someone else refinish your blade.

What else can I use for the compound, maybe something that is is the house or in the garage?

3M rubbing compound would work, and if you have a lowe's near you they have several different types of polish compound's that work very well.

I just polished the ATS-34 blade of my custom slippie with 1500 grit sandpaper. I believe it was originally finished with 600, so it's now shinier. It's between a very shiney satin and a mirror finish and looks really good. I did the bolster with a Dremel and a Dremel polishing pad which was pre-treated with a mild buffing compound. That's back to a mirror finish.
