I was once told by Kevin Wilkins that kydex sheaths should always be built with non-permanent rivets (chicago screws) to be easily opened for cleaning. He said that hard lint and other abrasives, maybe even remains of polishing compounds, tend to get embedded in the inside of kydex sheaths, and start scratching the finish with every draw/resheath. I recently noted this effect on a mirror polished blade with kydex sheath. The sheath is permanently riveted, so I couldn´t open it to properly clean it. I rinsed it thoroughly with water, but wonder if there´s still some lint remaining in the kydex.
My point: A) Why are nearly all kydex sheaths permanently riveted? Chicago screw construction would greatly help with cleaning. And B) what is the best method to clean the inside of a permanently closed kydex sheath?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
