Hello everyone!

I had itch for Congress or Toothpick while ago. Today Miss Mailman brought a nice package from Greg again. This time there was Northfield Bloodred Jiggedbone Toothpick, Non-serialized and saberground.

Negatives:
- Had a blade play. I fixed it in a minute. Rock solid now.
- Bloodred isn't quite bloodred but Crimson in my case. Edit: In day light red is very bright red. in artificial light its more crimson. So when looking day light, its completely different beast :)

Yeah, well you always have to find some critique :D

Positives:

- Fit: No gaps what soever, anywhere. No sharp angles. Perfect matching bone. Shield was pinned nicely and doesn't portrude. Perfect finish and near perfect fit. After bladeplay was fixed perfect every way.

- Ergonomics. All GEC knives feel good. Especially my #73's and #72. However this feels like it melts in hand. Just like my spyderco's this knife is instantly good in hand.

- Blade. This is perhaps most beautiful clip point I've seen. Saberground with swedges. Bevels are even and saberground makes tip look sturdy but combined with swedges its also very pointy. I am glad I went saber ground. Edge was sharp out of box but I stropped it with green combound. Now it has very good edge.

I am affraid this is not my last GEC toothpick if I can afford I would probably get some EDC version from Greg or Snakewood with Saberground.

As Halloween is near, I think carrying bloodred toothpick suits theme very well.

I know, pictures or it did not happened. I'll upload pictures as soon I get them. This is very nice knife. Not tank like #73 but rides well in pocket and is perfect for urban / office environment.

Jani,
Can you tell us how you fixed this? Did you squeeze it in a vise? If so, how is the snap on the blades after doing so?

Corey, I didn't do squeeze. I used liquid superglue in thin layer on brass bolsters. Let it dry and then opened blade. After few opening and closing I just took of excessive amount which opening and closing blade scrapess off. Its nice and tight after that but it works only minor blade plays. It has good walk and talk and no blade play. Of course this method isn't fool proof but has worked for me wonderfully for quite several knives.

Since this had some bladeplay I din't way to use squeeze or rubber hammer method. Superglue sounds weird but nor non-hard using knives it works well. My Buck 55 has worked 9 months bautifully without developing bladeplay after fixing it superglue way.

I just guess superglue tightens the pivot area and blade scraps excessive off. After all excessive is off, there's snug fit suiting for light to medium use.

Interesting!
I would have never thought of doing that.

Congrats! That's a good itch to finally be rid of. I just got rid of the same itch recently. that's a shame about the blade play, but you came up with a very elegant way of dealing with it. Knuckledragger that I am, I would've started womping on the pin and bolster with a mallet.

Corey: its good to have some needle also to help getting the excessive glue which becomes gunk after its dried and you open knife couple of times. That affects negativelly in walk and talk. Lubing pivot after cleaing it. It works marvelously. I have good snap and nice walk.

jani i have the same tooth as well as others. last year or 1st of this year i had my brother put this knife in his hand. he said it was a great fit & one could work all day with a tooth. i've described the gec tooth in hand as simply a very sensual experience.

It certainly does look ergonomic. Bet it fits the hand like a gently-squeezed slab of warm wax.
