So I just took delivery of this peanut sized ,"Stainless Steel" ,2 bladed peanut . The selling point personally was the scales. Antler...but is this scratting or jigging?
My brain says jigging but my heart says scratting.
Here it is next to a jigged second cut antler Tidioute #54(Thank You Brett it is one of my faves)

Opinions sought and all welcome.:)

Looks scratted to me.

It is a fine looking knife too, I have never seen scratting on such a small knife.

Looks like scratting to me too. Apparently a term for that form of scratting was "diamonding" which evolved to "checkering"!
We need a linguist here!
Nice-looking knives meako, and a great question!

What brand does that Peanut wear?

It is tired thats true.A crooky little lambsfoot?/mutation.The main is as snappy and sharp as freshly kicked bull terrier.'STAINLESS STEEL 'is the only mark it bears.
Cheers.

Meako's knife seems more scratted than jigged, but is reminiscent of a Japanese style jigging.

I have observed a form of this style of "jigging" ," checkering"? .:) Whatever, on several English branded knives.
I believe this pattern of "jigging","checkering",usage is indicative of a certain time period or supplier of English knife production,50s,60's, I don't know. I have seen it on several knives of different English makers. Meako ,I hope you don't mind this intrusion in your thread, here are some examples of these knife handles:

I thought I was understanding the distinction between scratted or jigged, but now I'm not so sure.:o
Is checkered a third option that evolved from one or both of the others??
How should the covers on this Rough Rider copperhead be described? (The manufacturer calls it brown checkered gunstock bone.)
