Screaming woman in the next room

I have chronic back pain from injuries. Several years I have suffered. In 2006 I went through the gantlet of doctors and test. I was given several shots deep into the joints of my back and laterals. They had a very good effect, that lasted until 6 weeks ago. I went through the doctor gantlet again and settled on having the shots again today.

So I show up for my appointment and was led to a waiting room. All of a sudden I heard this woman just wailing. It sounded like they were killing her. Then it all came back to me how much those shots hurt when they are deep into your spine. Soon the Doctor comes in and says "you ready?" I told him no way unless he puts me under. He looks at me like I'm a sissy and tries to convince me to go ahead. I reminded him of the time he told me he had never had this done to him and had said hell no I ain't letting nobody stick me like that.

I've got a Tuesday appointment to be anesthetized and shot several times.

This procedure must bear some similarity to being stabbed. Be it by an ice pick. A really big ice pick.

.....this is going to sound crazy, but have you tried Vitamin D? My buddy had chronic back pain and apparently tried it all, until he was about to go up for surgery. Then his doctor put him on these massive amounts of D, and voila, pain subsided. Its not completely gone, and he still has to be careful with his back, but it worked....

Are you referring to an epidural block? I've had 4 sets of those mothers and each time it was worse. Like lightening shooting down my back down my legs and through my foot. I sweat a lot and flinched a bunch but never cried out lout. This is the advantage of being a man. BTW, mine didn't do diddily squat for the chronic pain that i still feel today.

You didn't list your location, but I've had this done, and it was under partial anesthesia. What kind of butcher would do it without?

After re-reading my post I can see how it might somehow be inferred that I'm saying you're not a man if you can’t take these shots without the anesthesia. This is not the case at all. My comment was directed to your comments about the woman next door. These shots are ridiculously painful.

Update; I had injections while under total anesthesia, in 10 locations at 5 levels. All seamed OK until the 4th day. Then I got generally ill. Insatiable thirst/urination, blurred vision. Called the Dr Needle MoFo. Denial from him. Saw my general Dr. Blood test revealed A1c of 10.7. A few more days and I'd expired. The pain Dr. administered so much corticosteroid it blew out my pancreas. Now I'm type 2 diabetic, on metformin and injected insulin for life. No amount of action on my part brought any punishment to this pain Dr for procedural error. Believe me I tried.

Orork, I was confused there for a moment. You posted almost on the anniversary of your procedure. I forgot it was 2013. :)

So sorry to hear about your bad experience. Certain procedures are risky enough even without an incompetent doctor.

Ya, not what I wanted either. So, my back felt better for months. Then on Sat 3 Nov 12 at work, I dropped a swivel socket while working under an elevated car. No problem, just pick it up and go on, right? Wrong, I had to take a couple steps to get to the socket then when I stood up, it was right into one of the car's tires. Bam, compressed my neck, broke it actually. So I've been off work since. Guess what they're going to do Wednesday? More shots, this time in my neck. Getting old is over-rated.

Wow!, just wow! Positive thoughts from the Pleasant Valley for less pain in your life.

It's true, getting old is not for wussies.... :D

Best wishes for a painless procedure. I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to add a heaping pile of pain, physical and emotional stress on top of your existing discomfort. Hang in there.

Well then..........

I hope you get better man!

Iv always thought about this when I'm in pain..

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

-Hunter Thompson.

Cheers!

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. The massive amount of injections set off diabetes and I am having to take meds for that forever. I had fusion surgery on my neck in August of 2014. I was deemed disabled shortly thereafter due to all of my previous physical traumas plus the latest broken neck. I'm now retired on SSD. They don't just hand out disability, I'm really crippled up.

Sorry to hear this. I know that getting "disability" is usually not automatic. I hate the spinal shots. That horse needle scares me to death. Now I simply say... I want "general". There are risks of course.

Have you tried taking Vitamin D3 as previously suggested? It works best combined with Vitamin K2. Read alot good things about it.
