Went to tighten the screw on the thumb disc and the head of the screw broke clean off? leaving the rest of the screw in the knife, now no thumb disc, I'm going to send it in , anyone else heard of this? it's a 2010 model...

ive never removed a thumbdisc from any knife i own.

Me either, but is started to get loose by its self, went to tighten the screw and it broke.

And the broke part of the screw thats still in the knife is impossible for me to get out

Is there enough to cut a slot in it for a small flat head screw driver? If so, use a small very thin kerf cut off wheel on a mandrel and preferably a variable speed dremmel or similar rotary tool and then back it out gently and discard it.

Cuz the srew head broke off, and there is nothing to grab to unscrew it? get what I mean

it can be done. there are specialty bits just for this purpose.

but id send it in and let eki fix it. the screw may have had a fracture before you even messed with it.

Yup, you can "easily" get that out if you know how to do it and what to use. Try getting a snapped thread tap out of a hole, now that's fun. :p:thumbup:.......

I have removed the thumb disc on many knives and have only had a problem once. That was a screw that got mashed up pretty good when the disc was fitted at EKI but it was just a case of changing the screw so that was an easy fix.

well I don't have any of the tools to do so , I'd rather send it to someone on here that does know how to and could replace the screw, seems like it would be a quicker turn around time...

I'd do it for you but posting your knife half way round the world for such a small task would just be silly.
STR is on your side of the pond and more than capable of doing it so I'd ask him.

Is any of the screw protruding from the blade spine ? if there is even a mm or so you can probably get it out with needle nose pliers or a scribe/pin etc.

Go to any hardware store, bring the knife and buy a small easy-out. They are made to remove broken screws and they are dirt cheap.
