screw in chokes?

seems like a great idea.. but it seems like the threaded ends and the small tubes might become a week point and an area that could develop corrosion... Ive never owned a Firearm wth screw in chokes, but am considering getting one... so I'm honestly looking for opinions...
also if anyone owns an h&r single shot with the screw in choke capability Please chime in..Thanks.

Screw in chokes are fine, IMHO. I am not aware of any problems and own quite a few shotguns with that feature. I do use anti-seize compound [can get a small envelope of same at your auto parts store for less than a $1 in most places] when installing as I hunt waterfowl in salt water.

On a side note I would not waste my time or money on a RIFLED choke tube if you want great accuracy with modern sabot slugs... that calls for a fully rifled BARREL.

Own a couple of H&R's -UltraSlug rifled 20 and a 12..good value..doubt I would pay a premium for screw in choke capability in a single shot, YMMV.

I have a few shotguns with screw chokes. Don't have a H&R but I assume the setup is generally the same.

I like mine and would definitely get this feature on future guns. Having the ability to change shot patterns easily/in the field is a plus. I have not had any problems with corrosion but I clean my guns after use and usually remove the chokes and clean those as well. It doesn't add much to the cleaning process.

Be sure to never fire the gun without a choke in place, this can damage threads.

Hi,

Screw-ins are almost universal these days. Just keep them lightly lubed and remove them every once in a while. You can use anti-seize, choke tube lube, a good moly grease, or even just some non-drying oil. Heck, I even used Crisco for a while with no problems at below freezing temps. Mostly I use just a good moly grease.

An important thing to remember is not to over tighten the tubes when you install them. This is perhaps the biggest culprit in stuck tubes. They just need to be snugged in good. Not tightened to 600 ft/lbs.

Screw-in's on my 11-87 for 10 years now without a problem. Up until the last cleaning just oiled the threads with Hoppe's (like the rest of the gun)... Now shes got some militec-1 on her and we'll see how that goes!
