On Friday, the sheath that I won in this contest arrived:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-GAW-Carbon-fiber-holstex-sheath-for-your-BK7

So, on Saturday it was time to head to the woods! :)

I was going to piggyback it on the sheath azwelke made for my Rodent Waki in an elegant fashion, but all the neat hardware I had seems to have gone missing. :(
So, I jury-rigged it with paracord, bungee cord, and leather for washer material:

The Rodent Waki is not too bad for chopping:

Or batonning:

It poses majestically...

...and gets along well with the BK7:

Someone has been at the site relatively recently doing some hunting, it seems:

As well as further back in the past:

The shelter framework was solidified:

Here's the genuine French Laguiole produced for a French outdoors company with its headquarters in Paris...made in Pakistan! :D

Note the Shepard's Cross they used as a mobile shrine while away from church facilities:

It was supposed to rain a fair bit, and indeed it had on the drive there and as we arrived...but then it stopped.
The tarp did serve a valuable purpose in providing shade though.
Here is how it looked:

A Daddy Longlegs decided to hang out with the blades for a bit:

We decided to reassemble the table:

You can see the sheath pretty well in this picture. The Rodent Waki at this point has a very chipped edge, as I established a trail down to the creek so we could get water for fire extinguishing more easily in the future. I cut all the stumps of various plants, shrubs and trees right out of the ground...must have hit some rocks along the way. The best part was, due to the drought conditions we had going for a bit, the creek had disappeared entirely, except for a couple of puddles. We managed to get about one liter of water later on...we could have dug a well-type of thing to get a bit more, but the mosquitoes were fierce down there, and we had the fire under control anyway.

The BK7 worked really well for making a sausage skewer...didn't have to use the folders at all:

It's nice having poles to hang things from, as well as a sturdy table:

Food!

My brother made this mighty spear.

The "wild pig analogue" being used as a target was the ironwood stump we use for sawing (it had died of natural causes before being cut).
As it is a damned tough stump, we expected to hear a "Bonk!!!" sound if it hit.
The first throw missed.
The second throw from 25 feet hit though...

It was stuck in there really well; it took a LOT of pulling force to get it out.
We would have been eating pig that night (we did anyway, due to the sausages :) ).

Next, it was my turn.
In 5 throws, one hit...and "Bonked!!!" right off, mashing the tip of the spear.
Turns out that the base of the stump has started to rot a bit. Still won't fall for a long time yet, but enabled the hugely surprising penetration.

Fire!

This right here shows just how handy the table is for holding all your stuff:

It was a very successful outing. :)
Once again I must thank azwelke for a fun giveaway contest, and a great prize...this sheath fits super snug, and had insane retention.
Looks good too.

Great post. Nice to see the BK7 proving its usefulness next to some larger blades. Where are you folks based? One of your previous posts suggested you were in Ottawa.

We're down here in Windsor.
Been to Ottawa though; nice city. :)

How well does that waki chop with two hands, what's the largest tree you've taken down with it? Is it a pain to tote around?

Set up a tent about a month ago, had around 30 daddy long legs on it 10 minutes after had set up. Must have been right on top of their nest.

Can't wait til hunting seasons start. Might start bear baiting this week. Never tried for one before, not even completely sure I can get a tag.

Not really a camper unless theres a purpose to be out, sometimes that purpose is just to see how drunk I can get though.;)

It actually chops better one-handed with the hand near the end of the handle, so it seems.
Two-handed is good for quick, repeated chops though...handy sometimes.

Haven't done much more than a 5 inch diameter tree with it.

The length of the handle makes it have to hang lower than I would like. Other than that, it isn't too annoying to carry. :)
Cool. We're in Hamilton. Be good to meet you if you ever come up this way.

Indeed.

One thing I really like about the new BK7 sheath is that it is shorter than the factory one.
This means I can throw it in the pack and not take up much room at all, which will be great for those times when I'm headed out and don't have huge knife needs, but still want a capable knife on hand.

Great outing man, thanks for sharing!
I love some BK7, yours is lookin good!
Mine needs some new pants real bad.
This reminds me, I need to cash in my runner up prize!

Fun!
You made the BK-7 look small.

Cash in that prize for sure. :)

:D
The BK7 is a good size knife...but the Waki definitely edges into sword territory.
Got the edge fixed up on it today; chips are gone, and once I refine the edge with finer grits of sandpaper, it'll chop better than before.

The BK7 is proving to be a great all-round utility knife though, capable of many things.
Not a bad choice at all for throwing in a pack when you don't know exactly what you'll be doing. :)

This is why it lives on my pack, which the stock sheath is great for. For the hip, I like the taco.

If I had a pack with webbing/straps, that would be good for the stock sheath.
My pack has a complete lack of such things though, so knives go in rather than on.

I may get a dedicated outdoors pack this fall though; haven't decided for sure yet.
