Screw size and tap info for putting another hole in a ZT 0566? Help please

I don't care for the lowrider clip that is factory on the ZT 0566 that I just got. I have an extra clip from a 0700 that I'd like to put on it. It looks just like the Skyline clip. If I were to drill and tap the steel frame to just put in one hole, what size drill bit and tap would I need?

Also, any suggestions on getting a tap that small?

You might ask Kershaw if they have a regular clip for that model... I had an issue with a clip on another ZT (different model), and when they sent me a replacement, the package had a low rider and regular clip in it.
 
check online for tap & bit sets...I believe the 0566 uses a 2-56 thread for the pocket clip. most suppliers will sell matched sets of tap & drillbit.

Go down to a hardware store that sells loose screws and test some of the small threading to see what you will need for sure.
 
Well I ordered a 2-56 tap and a few #50 drill bits made for drilling stainless. I'll be putting an extra screw hole in the SS side of my ZT 0566 tomorrow or Saturday. I'll take pics and let you know how it goes. :) I got the tap and 6 drill bits for about $20. I got 2 different type of bits and got 3 of each. One type is shorter and heat resistant. The other is a black oxide bit of some type. All are made for stainless but one of the types has cobalt in it. Not sure what that does.
 
Cobalt is better for drilling tougher metals. They are more expensive then high speed bits, but worth it IMO. The titanium coated drills sometimes cost a little more then standard, but when you need to sharpen them are no better then a standard bit. The shorter length could be what is called a jobber length bit. Let the drill do the work and use cutting oil if possible. Make sure you center punch the location so the bit does not wander when starting the hole.

Well, part of it went as planned. I had the entire knife apart and had the SS frame lock side secured to a piece of plywood. I got the holes drilled just fine with some high speed #50 bits. The cobalt bits I bought wouldn't touch the SS. I imagine that the high speed bits were tool steel as they went through the SS like butter. I created an extra hole for each end of the knife just on the locking side so I could do tip up or tip down. I tapped the tip down hole and just worked slowly and kept oiling it. During the tapping of the tip up hole, the tap broke off in the scale. I'm pretty sure I just put some side pressure on it accidentally. I learned a lot just by doing this though. So I got out the dremel and smoothed off the area where the tap was broken off and it's good to go. I tried to drill out the stuck tap but that tap is harder than any drill bit that I own. I broke two high speed bits trying to get the tap out. That's when I decided to leave the broken tap inside and just use a dremel with a stone to smooth any sharp things sticking out so nothing would catch on it. Worked perfectly.

I love the knife, and it's a tool to me so I don't care about the 3rd hole on the one end that looks kinda messed up. :)
