Hi,

Need to repair a knife, but a little confused on screw sizes. Checked various sizing charts, but for diameter. They state M2 etc. Well if you don't know the diameter of an M2 screw. Charts are not that useful as they don't quote in inches or metric

I need some button head hex or torx screws

Current are a shade over 1/16" or a shade under 2 mm and 3/8" long

I need something just a shade wider in diameter to re-cut new threads in aluminum scales.

Could anyone tell me which size screws I would need?

Thanks

M2 equals 2mm nominal thread diameter. You might be able to get away with stepping up to M2.5 but M3 should definitely work.

An M2 screw is 2mm in diameter (.079"X63.5 TPI). Not to be confused with a #2X56TPI (.086"X 56 TPI). 1/16th inch = .063". In the metric system, the pitch is given as mm/thread. In the US system, the pitch is given as threads/inch (TPI).

Actually found a site that explained it and ordered some 2 mm screws off Ebay and will see if that works in the repair.

Will have to try the 2 mm. Stepping up too much could create more problems as the head could be larger or it means drilling wider holes

Just a heads up, for a local source of tiny screws check hobby shops that carry remote control car parts.
