Hey guys:

A quick question on the scale screws. I was looking at the 98 Commander BT that I got from BRP (Thanks again Bob!). When did EKI go form the standrd flat head screws to the phillips? Does anyone know if they're interchangeable?

They are interchangeable . . . sort of.

The threads are the same size, but different knives take different length of those screws for scales and clips.

As a rule of thumb, and this is by no means written in stone, customs are made with flat bladed screws and production knives are made with Phillips screws. Again, this is not all inclusive and there are many knives in existence that are contrary to this issue.

In 98 and early 99 production models you will see both flat blade and Phillips used. I've even seen a couple knives that had flat blade body screws and Phillips clip screws. There have even been a few customs that were delivered with Phillips screws rather then flat blade, but again these knives are the exception rather then the rule.

Hope that clears it up a tad.

John
