See the pic attached & this may be a dumb question but going to ask anyway. What are the screws for on a frame lock for?Frame lock screws.jpg

Yeah it's a steel insert to reduce the rate of lock wear. If it's shaped so there's a tab that comes up on the inside of the handle it can be an overtravel stop, too, but I don't know for that particular knife.

I don’t think two screws are necessary, most knives have just one.
But yeah like they said it is to hold the lockbar insert in place.
Most lockbar inserts also act as an over-travel stop too.
FWIW I wouldn’t touch it, and I doubt it would come out easily.

Yes, for inserts.

Meh, steel inserts at least most of which I've encountered just allow for sloppy tolerances and with relative low pressure can be forced to touch the opposite handle.

They also tend to be more susceptible to closing if moderately tapped on the spine. Titanium has none of those issues.

Thanks for the reply's all. I am going to Blade Show Texas Friday in Ft Worth and was/am going to ask that questions at the Microtech Booth on the Matrix. I am not a novice but still learning also.

^except if it wears too much, and there’s no insert, then the whole knife is no good.

A lock bar insert can always be replaced by the manufacturer

Yeah but how many CRK Sebenzas have you seen worn out? If it takes me 20 years to wear out the well fit Sebbie, I'll happily buy a new one. If I fight the blade slipping off the lock on a ZT because of the insert, then it will never need to be replaced because it will be tossed in the drawer.

I sorta look at it like people talking about wearing out pistol frame between steel/aluminum/polymer. If I shoot any of them enough to warp them out of spec, I will be several thousand dollars in ammo in the hole.

I have really grown to like Titanium on steel. When it fits well, it fits WELL.
