Screws?

Can anyone tell me what size screws are used to secure the G10 scale on a Spyderco Southard. I thought I remembered seeing it before but my attempt to find it turned up nothing.

I'm still looking for the right ones. I know they are metric 2.5 mm threads. (Off the top of my head) but I can find screws with the same size head as the stock ones.

Good luck getting them from spyderco. I've been calling them for 6 months to try to get replacement screws for it. Pretty sad

The only screws they regularly send out are clip screws. There are exceptions, but afaik mostly on Golden made Spydercos..

Maybe try and email Joti Developement and see if they can send screws directly since according to some sources they are the ones making the knives for Spyderco in Taiwan http://www.jotitech.com/index.htm

Worth a shot :o

There's a local shop here called Pacific Fastener... I usually go see them whenever I've got odd screw requests, as they seem to have just about everything. If you get some details about thread diameter, thread pitch, length, head style, and head diameter, then they might have something for you.

Alternately, McMaster-Carr might have something that'd work for you... You'd just have to know exactly what you're looking for.

However: I think the clip screws are pretty similar to the handle screws, at least on the Byrd models... I was looking at mine earlier today, and it seemed pretty similar.

google fu: olanders or fastenal

It the screw is a 2.5mm, it probably has a 0.45 pitch. You can ask for a "M2.5 x .45" screw you will need to specify the head type and length. Longer screws can be shortened if necessary.

Also check some of the electronics places, they may have metric stuff there. I get some of my screws from a local electronics supply place not too far from my house.

I've taken to calling Fastenal "Fasten-some", as I often find they don't have the fasteners I need. They tout themselves as having a wide variety, but I find their selection mediocre. They have a lot of common sizes in-store, but they're selection is comparable to any decent Home Depot or Lowes. The fasteners they do have tend to come in bulk packages and are usually fairly pricey... They might be a few cents (or even a dollar) cheaper per piece than the other big box stores, but you usually have to buy 50 or 100 units (or 10, if you're lucky). The few atypical fasteners they do carry are usually available online only (or special order through the store), and tend to be pretty expensive.

Maybe it's just me, but my experiences at Fastenal just haven't been that helpful. Mind you, I'm lucky enough to have a really good fastener shop close to me, so maybe my perception is skewed.

If you have no other options, then I'm sure Fastenal will do, but using Ric's information you could probably just order a few screws off McMaster Carr. Olanders might be another option, although I've never used them.

Even here in Canada, nobody stocks these. It can be ordered in, though.

Google is your friend... Have you seen boltdepot.com

Thanks for all the suggestions but the good folks at Spyderco are taking care of me!

I lost a scale screw on my Resilience, called CS and was fully prepared to pay for them. Instead, they sent me a full set of both scale and clip screws AND a tube of loctite. I thought that was very generous of them, did not at all expect that, especially on one of their lowest priced models.
