A gentleman I work with just came back from lunch with a swordfish bill and told me he wants to scrim it. It has some age and appears somewhat porous so he was asking me if he needed to stabilie it befor starting to scrim and if so, with what? I came up blank on a search so how about it guys, any advice?

i'm no expert as i only occasionally dabble in it but i wouldnt think you'd need to do anything other than start with a clean high gloss finish to the bone, the closer to glass like in appearance the better. If its that porous it might present a problem though. Dunno without picts, etc
its alot harder than it looks though and i'm a lifelong artist, took alot of trial and error to get a comfortable technique down
good luck to him
