any recomendations? i would like to have a photographic scrimshaw insert on a knife i will be making and i figured i'd better start looking.

If you mean transfer a photograph or drawing,an engraving shop with a laser engraver can "scrimshaw" it on a handle or blade. It is quite reasonable, cost-wise,and usually looks like it was hand done.It looks closer to etching than scrim work.Talk to the shop before finishing the knife to see what they can do and the shape of the engraved area needs to be.

Gary Williams in Louisville, Ky. does a great job. You might try to contact him. Check the directory in Knives 2006.
