Anybody else carry and use any of Schrades scrimshaws. I think they are good looking knives and make great users to boot. I have been carrying a 505 that I rescued from a junk shop and am watching a couple more on e-bay. I'm not a very good collector as I like to try every knife I buy.

There are collections and then there are collections. Not a thing wrong with using a knife for it's intended purpose, IMHO. Knives are first and foremost, tools. Some are designed as high art first, and a tool second.

I have bought duplicates of many of my mint knives as users. As a matter of fact, the users outnumber the display knives. They are usually significantly cheaper to buy on ebay and elsewhere than NIB examples. And a well made Schrade has a lot of use in it. My 165OT is a prime example. I bought it new sometime in the mid seventies, dressed many deer (more than a hundred I am sure) and other game and a lot of fish with it. Other than the patina and an insignificant amount of blade wear, it is as good as new.

I don't think that most of the Schrade scrims were produced in limited numbers, a few maybe were. And as LT pointed out to us, the scrimshaw design was impressed using a die stamp made from the original art.

Oh hell, go ahead and use them! Many, many years ago when real scrimshawers did real scrimshaw knife handles, people enjoyed them because of comfort in the hand and the beauty of them. Now Ivory delrin is not whaletooth, but many of us still enjoy the look of them. And enjoy using 'em. Look at the generic one handed, pocket-cliped 'tactical' that all look and work about the same, butt-ugly, no personality, no soul. Pulling out a Schrade scrimshaw to cut your apple, repair your radiator hose, shows class and style... all too uncommon.

I recently made a friendly trade with a member here. I found myself asking him, as I selected a nice wood-handled 'Wolverine' from his extras, if he minded knowing I was going to USE the knife. How silly, huh? Oh, yeah, he gave me his permission.

Very well said. I was feeling a little funny about using them but you guys have put my mind at ease.
By the way the 165 is one of my favorite fixed blades. Great knife.
