Scrimshaw on Ivorite??

Just got an Randall #5 with an ivorite handle. Is the ivorite a good material for scrimshaw?

I am not familiar with tthe material but the fule of thumb is if the material will polish to a high gloss it can be scrimmed. The gloss is necessary so the ink will stick only in the scratches or dots made by the scrim tool. Ivory micarta for instance is very difficult to keep looking clean while scrimming because it has a lot of pores that must be sealed first and kept sealed to keep the ink out of them.
