Scrimshaw tang stamp question

Stupid question here: Ive noticed that some scrimshaws are tang stamped with the SC before the number and some with the SC after the number. Is there a reason for this and if you were to have a SC505 and a 505SC, is it the same knife with a tang stamp variation or a different knife.

Thanks!

Marc

First off Marc, I'll remind you and everyone else that there are no stupid questions. Though sometimes you may get an irreverent...er...irrelevant answer here. The Scrimshaw numbering system is a muddy puddle if ever there was one. There was some belated attempt to standardize the system, but still....the catalog may have it one way, the tang may have it another, and the box either way. So the question is, what do we as collectors want to go by? Want the production records? Can it get more official?
1975 Production Report- 260 S.C.
1978 " " - 152 SC
1983 " " - 505SC
1984 " " - 505SC
1985 " " - 505SC
1986 " " - 505SC
1990 " " - 502SC

By the catalogs-

1976 Catalog 152SC
1978 " 155SC
1983 " 502SC
1984 " 502SC
1985 " 502SC
1986 " 502SC
1990 " 502SC

So the catalogs and production reports pretty well agree. But not always with the tang stamps.

Thanks Michael. I'm doing my best to try and assemble every OT and UH folder. I find there are a lot of scrimshaws out there and they have different tang stamps. It can get quite confusing for a newb like myself. Another newbie question: Are the scrims considered different knives altogether or are they considered variants (i.e., I have several 505sc's that are just like the 8OT's) of the OTs and UH's? As a collector trying to compile as many different Schrade folders as I can, I just take it as being different knives altogether but other than the handle, they are the same (obviously, a lot of the UH and OTs are that way but have different shields). And for example, take a look at the two barlows below. They are the same exact knife for all intents and purposes but the difference being the handle. One is tangstamped a 206 and the other a SC506. Is that due to the year of production or is there a different reasoning altogether? Additionally, will there ever be a week-long class for Schrade collecting? I sure could use one :o
