I have some white micarta and I want to try my hand at scrimshaw, can anyone direct me to some on-line tutorials to help ease the pain?
Thanks in advance,
Scott

I'm working on a stag mouth piece for a pipe tomahawk. I'm wanting to do some real simple scrim on it and I don't want to buy another book plus I want to do it today. Anybody got any basics they would like to share?

Ray, make a tool from a piece of harden steel sharpen to a point, scratch design onto material, apply india ink which will fill the impressions and wipe off surplus, this part pretty easy the design and art work require special skills,Hope this helps..

Thanks Allen, I just found the information I was looking for in a book I already had located next to my favorite seat....... :D

The most important part is to get the surface absolutely smooth and polished.Every pit and sanding scratch will fill with ink, too. You may not see them until after you have carved your scrim,so get the surface ready first.
